Party season is upon us, and chief among the trends for partywear is – of course – a bit of razzle-dazzle sequin embellishment. There’s nothing like a bit of glitter and shimmer to really amp things up for evening, although you may not want to go too overboard with the sparkles (read: avoid adding on sparkly bags and shoes, body glitter, excessively sparkly jewellery if you’re already wearing sequins or you’ll risk looking like a Christmas tree).
Our best advice is: keep it simple. A sequinned dress or skirt is best paired with classic accessories and a basic top and/or blazer. Take a cue from Diane Kruger or Alessandro Ambrosio, who have both worn basic black heels to let their dresses do all the talking. We also love how Princess Beatrice wore her Notte by Marchesa pailette dress with black tights and a black cropped jacket - tres chic and the black helps to break up the sparkle.

If you’re thinking a sequinned dress might be a bit too much for you, then how about covering up your LBD or cocktail dress with this season’s hottest outerwear item – a sequinned jacket? If that still sounds scary, then a bag or pair of heels will look appropriately festive and party-ready without feeling like you’re OTT. Colour-wise, a dark blue or rich purple sequin is irresistible for evening but definitely don’t discount gold, silver or bronze.
