Virtual closet: our top 10 basics

Fashion changes every season… and every season comes with a new trend that we absolutely have to possess. But sometimes we take comfort in going back to our good old basics. Every girl has a dress, skirt, or knit that she absolutely adores and has an instinctive familiarity with, like an old companion. For this reason it is always useful to acquire some indispensable elements for our wardrobe. Here is the top 10 of our virtual closet.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 10: Prada or the return of the very chic librarian

Prada Fall 2010

Miuccia Prada claimed she never watched hit US TV show Mad Men… But looking at the Prada collection with its exaggerated cat’s eye glasses, it has the Betty Draper feeling all over it. The Prada girls are a reincarnation of the 60’s secretary or the very chic librarian with high buns and A-line skirts or dresses. Miuccia Prada explores sexiness by working on low-cuts emphasizing cleavage and celebrating the female figure.

The result is a dark-coloured collection (brown and black mostly), feminine classic shapes and a retro feel. We are quite intrigued by the vinyl coats and skirts, or the chunky socks with patent-leather shoes. When you know the power of Miuccia Prada as a powerful trend-setter, we will probably all be wearing chunky socks with our shoes this winter, and trying to look like Betty Draper.

London Fashion Week: who is the most stylish?poll

Which one? Diego, Sasha or Alexa?

Everyone knows the essential accessory in our wardrobe is the bag… Sometimes it contains our entire life (or at least useful stuff to face the urban jungle). We are all seduced into the never-ending search for the beyond reproach everyday companion. Some celebs have their favourites, and even though the IT bag domination might be behind us, it doesn’t deter from the fact some bags are still highly desirable and must be seen with. It is such an ultimate piece in our girl’s life. We took some time to look over a few of them…

Our heart beats quite strongly for the Alexa bag created in honour of style icon Alexa Chung. Emma Hill, creative director of Mulberry, learnt that Miss Chung had the classic Mulberry Bayswater so decided to transform the bag to better match her tomboy chic universe. We have to be quick because it is sold out in our fav online shopping destination, so this pin-up bag is in danger of becoming the holy grail.

We can be quite unfaithful sometimes too… Would the Sasha bag not be a very sweet option? Or the Amazona (currently leading the pack of celeb choices)? But, we love you too, Diego! So hard to make decisions sometimes… Crucial as this decision is!

London Fashion week: their best looks… Part 1

We change the decor… Another fashion week and this time we play in our very own back garden. Yet again, the fashion pack didn’t disappoint. Our little heartthrob is Pixie Lott who succeeded in adding a very sweet touch with her bow headband. But the shorts disciples, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss, both pulled off impeccable outfits showing off their definite fashion finesse.

LFW Fall 10: Burberry goes for Aviators' girls

Burberry Fall 2010

Back to the capital for the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week: Burberry promised quite a show followed by A-listers, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kate Hudson, Claire Danes, Uma Thurman and also by you and us on our computers following the live show in 3D. Christopher Bailey showcased a highly desirable military inspired collection “Burberry Cadette Girls”. The Burberry coat is now on our hot wish list: a must-have we definitely want to be seen in. Our biggest crush was on the voluminous aviator jacket – you can already buy it online at Burberry.

Bailey gave the right proportion and volume to peacoats and overcoats. We can already imagine London girls curling themselves up in these gorgeous sheepskin aviator jackets next winter, looking chic and sexy over their fluid dresses. Bailey proves he is not only a communication master, but also masters fashion like no other.

Oh mon Dieu! Isabel Marant hits Net-A-Porter today!

Isabel Marant Spring-Summer 2010

Now, life sometimes comes with some sweet news, and today’s wakeup call is: hype Parisian designer Isabel Marant hits Net-A-Porter today. She has been quite missed online – her absence so far was noted… so now the time has come to nail the brand strategy. We are pretty sure her bohemian, cosy and chic pieces will burn holes in more than a few credit cards.

LFW Fall 10: Topshop Unique's wonderland

Topshop Unique Fall 10

Will we have to wear antlers or animal headgear on our heads next autumn-winter? Topshop Unique invites us into in a shadowy world filled with strange creatures walking along an enchanting leafy path.

The mood is nature’s camouflage. Animal themes extend across the whole collection such as sheepskin on coats, leather parkas and satchels, interesting winter clogs with fur…. Just waiting to be adopted are fake furs, cardi-coats on fluid dresses and giant mittens.

Topshop unique definitely presents a very inspirational wardrobe. Our must-haves: the navy frilled coat with sheepskin trim, khaki slims and the cute fox print tee-shirt.

LFW Fall 10: Christopher Kane's rebellious girls

Christopher Kane Fall 2010 Ready-to-wear

The Kane girl is a ‘bad’ girl – a tad rebellious! She wears leather spotted with embroidered flowers, and black lace. It’s a different perspective on florals and a different vision of the classic LBD.

Christopher Kane proposes a sleek collection helped by his fresh vision… you might say the mix between leather and little flowers is rather bizarre… who said bizarre? Kane’s attention to detail and meticulous embroidery work makes this collection quite intriguing and to say it all, very exciting. His inspiration: young delinquents infused with elements of papal robes.

Kane takes us down some unusual yet enchanting roads with a lot of verve.

BAFTAS 2010: who wins the best dressed contest?

BAFTAS, Kirsten Stewart, Kate Winslet, Carey Mulligan, Audrey Tautou, Claire Danes, Vera Farmiga

The award season is under way… Stars are getting started on their frenzied schedules and rivalling each other’s creativity for the ultimate red carpet outfit. But our favourite ladies didn’t disappoint us at all. Our newest style crush Carey Mulligan, was glamour chic in her fab gown by Vionnet teamed up with YSL heels. Special mention to K-Stew in her strapless, immaculate and marvellous Chanel dress. Cutie Audrey Tautou went for a coral draped Lanvin dress showing off her sense of colour. The season of awards got off to a promising start!
