Military is one of those trends that always manages to drift in and out of the fashion scene. This season the best way to embrace it is with the New Utility jacket, which can be worn in several different ways. The first is ‘dressed down chic’, simply throw on a khaki Parka over any outfit to achieve that laid back 90’s look which Rachel Bilson does so well.
Another way to wear it is by mixing military with the minimalist trend; Keep the outfit simple with a green or black utilitarian jacket with clean lines and little detail. Balmain showed us another way in their Spring/Summer ’10 show with embellished shoulders on the jackets teamed with leather trousers and lace up boots.
The key with this look is in the details; look for military style buttons, embellished shoulders and classic utility colours such as khaki, navy and black. Celebs are embracing this trend for spring, with the likes of Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo rocking their own spin on the New Utility Jacket.
